Art offers an enriching experience that stimulates curiosity, experimentation and creativity in young children. Painting, assembling, layering and collaging provide many opportunities to enhance and stimulate imagination. Creating and playing with gouache, watercolour, clay, collage and construction materials builds confidence in self-expression. Students will create colourful works of art expressing their personal sense of fantasy and whimsy.

Drawing, Painting & Sculpture (6-8 yrs)

Through exciting and imaginative projects, young artists are encouraged to discover the world of art, learning through their own creative experimentation while being introduced to different historical and contemporary artists. Students will be introduced to a variety of two- and three-dimensional art making techniques, where they are encouraged to develop their skills and explore different approaches to self-expression.

Adventure in Art (6-8 yrs)

A spirit of adventure, exploration and experimentation guides this multi media class, where students learn fundamental skills to create both two- and three-dimensional art projects. Students will have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of media, which may include clay, plaster, acrylic paint, printmaking, watercolour, ink, and charcoal, to name but a few. They will be encouraged to develop imagination and creativity while gaining confidence in their own self-expression.

Contemporary Drawing Workshop (9-12 yrs)

(11 wks; fall: starts Sept. 21; winter: starts Jan. 18)

This course will help to develop a strong foundation of drawing skills and techniques through contemporary and popular culture approaches such as cartooning and Japanese Manga, caricatures, illustration, and grafitti. Students will be introduced to the basics of line, shading, form rendering, perspective, and composition. Working from both imagination and life, students will be encouraged to explore their creativity and personal styles. Experimentation with a variety of media will be introduced, including ink, pencil, charcoal, gouache, watercolour and different drawing surfaces.

Drawing, Painting and Sculpture (9-12 years)

This course enables students to consolidate their art making skills, to sharpen their observation skills, and to experiment with new media. Students will work in both two- and three-dimensional media, which may include clay, plaster, acrylic paint, printmaking, watercolour, ink, pastel, and charcoal. Students are encouraged to develop their imagination, creativity and their own style of expression.

Winter School Break - Daily Workshops (6 to 12 yrs)

Come warm up at the Visual Arts Centre during your Winter Break and you will have the chance to learn new and exciting ways to create! This winter, we invite our students to join our daily workshops where each day a different medium will be explored. Projects are adapted to the different age groups.
