Digital Photography I

This beginners’ class covers the skills you need to use your digital point-and-shoot or entry level SLR camera to its full potential, plus the basics of a digital workflow. Focus, perspective and camera controls will be covered. Aesthetic considerations such as choice of subject, framing, lighting and composition will also be addressed. Instruction and materials in English, discussions bilingual.

This intermediate course is designed for the student who has taken Digital Photography I and has a good basic understanding of their SLR camera. Topics include shooting in RAW format, manual exposure control and use of white balance. Students will refine their technical skills in flash exposure, the use of interchangeable lenses and indoor studio portrait lighting. Creative assignments, class discussion and critiques focus on developing a personal approach to photo imagery, balancing both technical and artistic concerns. Instructions and materials in English, discussions bilingual. Prerequisite: Digital Photography I or the equivalent.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom

Overwhelmed by the hundreds of photos accumulating on your computer? Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is the software program that will help you get organized and do more with your photographs. Learn how to import automatically, rename and organize your images into folders. Batch-edit your entire shoot; adjust and enhance colour, exposure, and tonal range. Discover new ways to present your work: printed contact sheets, online web galleries and dynamic slide shows. A useful tool for any photographer or artist. Laptop suggested, PC or Mac.

The Basics of Photoshop

A step-by-step approach to Adobe Photoshop, introduces both artists and photographers to this versatile, creative tool. You will learn to format, retouch, apply special effects, adjust colour or otherwise enhance and transform your digital images and prepare them for printing. Course makes use of Photoshop CS5 but CS4 or CS3 are also acceptable. Prerequisite: familiarity with Mac or PC and basics of a digital camera. Laptop required. Instructions and materials in English, discussions bilingual.
