This course focuses on the study of throwing (wheel technique) and decoration (engobing and glazing). Theory, demonstrations and critiques help in the creating and designing of functional forms (bowls, mugs, plates).

This exciting and expressive process dating back to 16th century Japan and the Zen tea ceremony, allows for unique effects and beautiful colours. The course consists of two parts. The first three classes at the Centre will be devoted to the production of work. Materials include one bag of clay. The last eight hours will be the glaze decorating and outdoor firing. Firing day: Aug. 7.

N.B. – Last open studio in the summer session will be July 23. Open studio is made available for ceramic students for extra practice time. Cost of open studio is included in course fees. (Schedule is subject to change.)
